Address: 1 Tweed Terrace, Coolangatta QLD 4225
Architect: Fulton Trotter Architects
Installer: B & R Walls & Ceilings Pty Ltd
Builder: Multi Span
Products: WAVE BLADES – Sculptured Features

Perched on the spectacular coastline of Coolangatta, the Black Dingo Café at Captain Cook Lighthouse offers sweeping ocean views and a truly immersive coastal experience. To complement this remarkable setting, the feature ceiling showcases SUPAWOOD WAVE BLADES in SUPAFINISH Tasmanian Oak, bringing the rhythm of the ocean indoors.

A Ceiling Inspired by the Sea

The project’s unique location made SUPAWOOD WAVE BLADES a natural design choice. The gentle, flowing curves of the system echo the movement of the surrounding waves, creating a seamless connection between the built environment and the natural landscape. With uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean, the sculptural ceiling enhances the atmosphere – inviting customers to relax in comfort and enjoy the embrace of the sea.

The warmth of the Tasmanian Oak SUPAFINISH adds a refined, organic texture, softening the space while reinforcing the coastal palette. The result is a ceiling feature that not only defines the café’s identity but elevates the overall customer experience through its calming form and materiality.

Careful coordination between design and construction teams ensured the WAVE BLADES system was executed to perfection, delivering both visual impact and technical performance.

B & R Walls & Ceilings, shared his experience:

“It went very well – it all came out very well. The product worked out very well. Fantastic customer service. SUPAWOOD is an incredible company to work along with. The location is amazing, we saw whales swim by.”

Bringing the Ocean Inside

This project exemplifies how SUPAWOOD WAVE BLADES can transform a space, using flowing geometry and premium finishes to create a memorable architectural feature. At Captain Cook Lighthouse Black Dingo Café, the ceiling does more than define the space  –  it captures the essence of the coastline and enhances every visit with a sense of calm, connection, and coastal beauty.
