A school gym is a demanding environment for any architectural lining. At Catholic Ladies’ College in Eltham, Victoria, the upper walls needed a solution that could combine durability and fire compliance with the warmth of a timber-look finish.
SUPAWOOD TerraTough provided the answer
Designed for high-traffic and impact-prone environments, TerraTough is a non-combustible mineral oxide architectural lining that combines the appearance of timber with high-performance characteristics. It is non-combustible to AS 1530.1, Fire Group 1 rated, and resistant to impact, moisture and mould—making it particularly suited to applications such as schools, sports halls and gymnasiums.
Performance meets design
For the Catholic Ladies’ College gym, fire compliance was an important consideration, while the high-impact nature of the space called for a particularly durable lining solution.
TerraTough panels in Tasmanian Oak ST were installed across the upper walls of the gymnasium. The timber-look finish brings warmth to the large sporting space, complementing the timber floor while creating a strong visual contrast with the white lower walls and exposed structural elements.
The result demonstrates how performance requirements can become part of the architectural design rather than detract from it—delivering a robust wall lining suited to the realities of a busy school environment.
The project was designed by One Design Office (ODO), constructed by Hannemann Building Group, with the TerraTough linings installed by Lumenated Ceilings.
