The Maribyrnong Civic Precinct and Community Hub in Footscray, Victoria, has undergone a major transformation. The redevelopment, sympathetically designed by DesignInc, revitalised the historic Footscray Town Hall whilst introducing modern facilities to foster community engagement and sustainability.
Central to the interior design are SUPAWOOD’s SUPASLAT timber panels in Tasmanian Oak SUPAFINISH, which contribute to multiple spaces with striking curves as well as in traditional linear format. These modular slatted panels offer a visual rhythm and warmth inspired by the natural flow of the nearby Maribyrnong River.
SUPASLAT panels are known for their flexibility and ease of installation, featuring concealed fixings. In the case, the curvable battens were concealed by Black SUPABAB which provided the additional benefit of high-level acoustic absorption. Their application in the Civic Precinct not only boosted the building’s acoustic performance, ensuring a comfortable environment for community gatherings and day to day administrative functions they contributed to the project’s 6 Star Green Star rating, reflecting excellence in environmental sustainability.

The use of natural materials aligns with the project’s commitment to sustainability and biophilic design principles. Lead Architect at DesignInc, shared this feedback:
“The finished project looks fantastic. Thank you to SUPAWOOD”.
SUPAWOOD’s SUPASLAT panels in aluminium were also used for the exterior terrace area, in order blend the woodgrain design seamlessly from the interior to the exterior. The use of complementary SUPAWOOD products in this way is becoming a common practice and is something that is a benefit of our range of solutions.
