Bringing Storytelling into Architecture

The Aboriginal Gathering Place in South Morang is a culturally significant community facility designed to foster connection, learning and celebration of Aboriginal heritage. Thoughtfully designed by fjc studio and delivered by 2Construct, the project brings together architecture, storytelling and materiality in a meaningful way.

SUPAWOOD was proud to contribute to this important project, working to deliver tailored acoustic and decorative lining solutions that support both the functional and cultural objectives of the space.

A Story Told Through the Ceiling

A standout feature of the project is the Welcome Space ceiling, where SUPACOUSTIC CREATIV Fuse panels have been used to create a visually striking and culturally rich environment. Finished in SUPAFINISH Spotted Gum, the panels extend across the Welcome Space and multi-purpose ceilings.

The panels incorporate SP1 perforations for acoustic performance, while also featuring a scaled Aboriginal artwork fused directly onto the surface. This integration of art and acoustic treatment transforms the ceiling into a storytelling element – enhancing both the sensory and cultural experience of the space.

Seamless Wall Integration

To ensure visual continuity throughout the interiors, SUPALINE panels in matching SUPAFINISH Spotted Gum were installed to the lower sections of walls and doors. This approach ensures that doors blend seamlessly into the wall finishes, maintaining a clean, cohesive aesthetic across the facility.

Acoustic Performance with a Solid Appearance

For the upper wall areas, a combination of SUPAMICRO and SUPAMICRO CREATIV Fuse panels was selected. These panels provide excellent acoustic performance while maintaining the appearance of a solid, unperforated surface. This was key to achieving the desired visual outcome without compromising on acoustic comfort within the space.

Supporting Community and Culture

The Aboriginal Gathering Place is more than a building – it is a place of connection, reflection and cultural expression. SUPAWOOD’s contribution demonstrates how carefully considered materials can enhance both the functionality and storytelling of a project.

By combining advanced acoustic solutions with bespoke finishes and integrated artwork, the result is a space that is not only highly functional but also deeply meaningful to the community it serves.
