Acoustics and Fire problem solved at Gold Coast University Hospital

Noise reverberation control and high Fire Hazard requirements were needed for the huge main entrance atrium at the new Gold Coast University Hospital. SUPAWOOD’S SUPACOUSTIC products met both requirements perfectly and also achieved the aesthetics the design demanded.

The $1.7 billion GCUH at Birtinya Qld is the largest public health project undertaken in Australia to date. The design consortium included Silver Thomas Hanley, PDT and HASSELL.

The main entrance and foyer forms a huge atrium space lit by natural light through the large amount of glazing which integrates the interior with the surrounding parkland. However large spaces and acoustically reflective glazing create reverberation issues. The use of SUPACOUSTIC panels successfully softened the acoustics, achieving a non-clinical and welcoming atmosphere.

As the main entrance and exit of the hospital, BCA required the highest possible Fire Hazard rating, group 1. The SUPACOUSTIC panels supplied are in concept veneer on 12mm FR MDF were Fire Group 1 certified.

Perforated panels in SUPAFINISH Hoop Pine bring the warmth of timber and a welcoming atmosphere to a hospital visit. The concept veneer ensured consistency of colour and grain over a broad surface area.

SUPAWOOD acoustic panels and ceiling tiles in SUPAFINISH have also been used extensively throughout the Clinical Services Building and Internal Patient Unit of this hospital complex.

Aesthetic, tastefully dramatic but practical, the SUPACOUSTIC Hoop Pine panels used in this prestigious project met the highest expectations and standards the design team demanded.
