Custom Tree Pattern SUPACOUSTIC Acoustic Panels and SUPATILE SLAT Ceiling Tiles Enhance Commercial Atrium

Bates Smart bring the trees into their green building.

SUPAWOOD’s decorative wall panels and slatted ceiling tiles form an integral part of the striking light filled atrium at the University of Wollongong’s showcase building Enterprise 1.

The designers, Bates Smart, looked for a mix of suitable adaptable linings which could be customised to reflect the exterior surroundings of the building while addressing the client’s environmental requirements.

SUPAWOOD’s adaptable range of products provided the choices required to achieve the designers concept.

While still part of the campus, the building is the centre for an innovative development in state-of-the-art commercial and research space and now houses a mix of businesses that interact with the university and each other in open collaboration.

The SUPAWOOD lining products used have been chosen to carry the exterior architectural features and surrounds of the outside of the building through into the interior with the use of tree motif panels and natural wood slats.

SUPACOUSTIC acoustic wall panels have been used to line the front of the balustrade on each level facing into the atrium. These have been custom perforated with a stylized tree trunk design and finished in a White SUPACOLOUR solid colour.

Custom-made lengths of SUPATILE SLAT Lift & Shift ceiling tiles in a Western Red Cedar have been used for the lift lobby ceilings on each level. These ceiling tiles provide full access to services in the ceiling space but also beautifully complement the timber cladding used on the exterior of the building.

The client’s design brief called for environmentally sustainable initiatives to achieve a high NABERS rating by including the use of low VOC materials. SUPAWOOD’s products not only achieved the aesthetic feel and customisation required, they also offered the green options as well. The building has now been awarded a 5 star NABERS rating.
