Insight Projects’ fitout features sustainable Maxi Beam
SUPAWOOD’s MAXI BEAM feature strongly throughout the state-of-the-art BOSIC sports injury clinic in Barangaroo, Sydney.
The client’s brief to the designers, Insight Projects, was to create a functional but relaxing space using sustainable building materials for the fitout. The designers looked for a lightweight beam product that would achieve the design intent and could be easily installed in a small space.
Maxi Beam not only offered the desired aesthetics, but its light weight provided a quick and easy install in a small space.
The small 200m2 space for the fitout was a concrete shell, so finding a product which could be easily fixed to the ceiling without major work was crucial to keeping within the client’s budget. The design concept included the use of timber beams to break up the varying ceiling heights as well as to function as screens, dividing the small space into defined zones to create a sense of openness.
Prefinished MAXI BEAM were supplied in 2780mm lengths and cut on site to suit by the builder, Pioneer Construction Management. The light weight of the beams meant that preparing, handling and installing in such small areas was straightforward.
The finish chosen was SUPALAMI Light Tas Oak laminate which has provided the warmth of timber as well as a high degree of durability and ease to maintain. This corresponded with the carefully selected furniture, textiles, equipment and other sustainable materials.
‘The quality is very good and the project went well. Supawood are an excellent company to work with.’ Greg Bourke – Pioneer Construction Management.
