Following the successful installation of SUPAWOOD’s customised wall panels to the State Library NSW Auditorium Stage 2, Cullen Feng engaged SUPAWOOD to consult on bespoke solutions for the Ground Floor and Reading Room refurbishment as part of the wider transformation of the Macquarie Street building.
The curving and colourful design builds on the visual language of the previous auditorium installation, with forms that abstractly reference bookshelves. Carefully considered colour toning was used to differentiate the Ground Floor from the Lower Level Reading Rooms, creating a clear visual hierarchy while maintaining continuity across the public spaces.
A modular and systemised approach was integral to the project, enabling a smooth and efficient installation within a tight programme aligned to the building’s relaunch. The solution required a completely customised modular system, incorporating specific paint finishes, rounded profiles, refined trim detailing, curving capability and acoustic backing.
SUPAWOOD also provided project-specific compliance certification to meet the required fire group standards, delivering a fully compliant, customised system solution tailored to the project’s design intent, performance needs and construction timeline.
