At Greenhills Primary School in Greensborough, Victoria, the upgraded basketball stadium provides enhanced sound quality with acoustic linings that bring colour, creativity and energy into the space. This multi-purpose facility is a proud part of the school’s identity and community life.
The standout element of the project was the inclusion of a unique mural, made in collaboration with Greenhill’s students and local Aboriginal artist, Emma Bamblett, who is a descendant of the Wemba Wemba, Gunditjmara, Ngadjoniji and Taungurung people. The design acknowledges and celebrates the cultural heritage of the area and enhances the stadium with a sense of place, history and respect.
The challenge to meet the acoustic and artistic goals was achieved by architects AOA Chris Peck. They approached SUPAWOOD who were able to supply SUPACOUSTIC panelling system, finished in Tasmanian Oak SUPAFINISH and integrate the mural onto the timber using their CREATIV Fuse product. The selection of this product brought a natural timber aesthetic into the stadium while bringing to life the featured Aboriginal art.
Greenhills Primary School is one of the first projects to incorporate the CREATIV Fuse product. Commenting on the importance of the mural design, Chris Peck, Director of AOA, stated: “It’s a significant piece of art in a significant space.”
In addition to providing the background for the bespoke artwork, the SUPACOUSTIC panels delivered several other benefits including improved sound clarity through reduced reverberation, fire compliance and durability for a high-traffic, public-use environment.
The Greenhills Primary School Basketball Stadium has become more than just another facility on this campus that the whole school is proud of and their collaboration on the design. SUPAWOOD is proud to have provided the materials that brought this space to life.
