Airport Central Station, located in Perth, Western Australia, is a vital part of the Forrestfield-Airport Link, a transformative infrastructure project within the city’s METRONET initiative. This state-of-the-art station serves as a primary gateway for passengers travelling to and from Perth, blending modern design with efficient functionality for the best commuter experience.
Designed by GHD Design, the station embodies form and function, with its most striking feature being the expansive atrium ceiling. This visually captivating centerpiece, described by GHD as a “wow” for visitors, sets the tone for the station’s sophisticated and welcoming ambiance.
The design of the atrium ceiling incorporates SUPAWOOD’s SUPACOUSTIC panels, finished in Tasmanian Oak SUPAFINISH. The panels were chosen not only for their ability to provide an elegant natural timber aesthetic but also for their durability and low-maintenance qualities—essential in a high-traffic environment. The warm, timber-inspired finish complements the broader architectural theme, enhancing the station’s contemporary appeal.
In addition to its visual impact, the SUPACOUSTIC panels play a critical role in improving the station’s acoustics. By reducing noise levels in the bustling hub, they contribute to a quieter, more comfortable environment for passengers navigating the space.
As part of the Forrestfield-Airport Link, Airport Central Station reflects the city’s commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure. The station not only improves connectivity to the Perth Airport but also showcases a thoughtful design for public transport architecture.
