Ken Tippett Architect find easy to install effective acoustic solution

A delineated feature ceiling of SUPACOUSTIC NCK noise control kits has been used successfully to address noise reverberation in a new bar of the Townsville RSL Club extension.

The extension to the new Spectators Sports Bar and Bistro utilises an old adjoining warehouse where the existing ceiling was extremely high. As the bar was to be used to house a new monster LED screen, addressing noise echo in the space became an important factor for designer, Ken Tippett Architect.

The designers sought a flexible, economical and easy to install acoustic lining which could also be supplied in a timber finish to blend with other elements being used. SUPAWOOD were approached and recommended SUPACOUSTIC NCK.

The acoustic slotted NCK panels were supplied in complete kit form and installed directly over the old warehouse ceiling in a sawtooth 3D arrangement. SUPACOUSTIC NCK is designed specifically for this type of situation and therefore were quick and economical to install achieving a very stylish end result.

SUPACOUSTIC NCK is NATA certified and will achieve exceptional noise reverberation results.

Also to keep costs within a realistic budget, a durable SUPAFINISH Spotted Gum concept veneer finish was chosen for the ceiling panels. This finish successfully complements a Spotted Gum timber feature wall and suspended pergola. In this space the designer has achieved a pleasing contact between the soothing warmth of timber and stark white walls where screens are mounted.

This renovation has been awarded a 2016 North Queensland Regional Architecture Awards Citation. This is what the judges said...

“The design of each space within the project is clearly defined through use of varied acoustic ceiling & wall treatments. While the project provides distinction between the existing club’s activities and the new areas, the transition from existing building to the acquired building is seamless within the overall.”
