Scooter + Yee design reflects local environment in club’s ambience upgrade.

Scooter + Yee used Supawood’s WAVE BLADES to create a stunning entry feature for a small club in the heart of Dee Why on Sydney’s northern beaches.

The Builders’ Club is a long-established club and located on the same site since 1958. Scooter+Yee Architects were commissioned to design a contemporary interior which would upgrade both the facilities and the atmosphere for the club. Throughout the interior the designers explored the concept of mirroring the local ocean and bush environment. To achieve this feel they needed suitable linings and fittings with organic textures and finishes.

WAVE BLADES offered the perfect product for a ceiling feature in the entry area as the blades could be custom contoured to form a rippling ocean wave effect flowing from the portico into the club.

The WAVE BLADES have been contoured to suggest rippling water and set against a black background for maximum impact. The ceiling feature starts under the portico outside, continues through the front door then expands out to form a directional effect flowing past the reception desk and into the passageway beyond. Lighting and other services have been integrated between the blades.

SUPAFINISH Euro Beech on a plywood substrate has been used to match the furniture of the eatery in the area to one side of the entry.

Warm timber linings, fittings and furniture, rich monochrome patterned carpet and laser cut black on white flora wall features blend together beautifully. To further this, an expansive live plant wall flows down one side of the interior. With the effect of the timber blade ceiling, the whole provides a welcoming and contemporary interior to all who enter.
